Footprints on Katmai

Inspired by the sketches in his late grandmother's sketchbooks, artist, filmmaker, and KEEN impact maker Max Romey retraces her travels to the remote beaches of Katmai, Alaska. There he joins a group of marine debris experts from the Ocean Plastics Recovery Project and discovers that a lot of people are making footprints on Katmai without ever visiting.

KEEN and Protect Our Winters are co-title sponsors of Max's inspiring, 22-minute film, Footprints on Katmai. It was featured at the 2024 Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride and premiered worldwide at KEEN HQ in Portland, OR. We had about 150 engaged folks here to view the film and hear from our panel of inspiring community members: Mercy M’Fon from Wild Diversity, climate activist and climber Graham Zimmerman, PFAS expert Jamie DeWitt, and wildlife biologist Shannon Finnegan. And our watercolor table was at full capacity all night with people lining up to chat with our Chief Watercolor Officer, Max Romey. Thanks for coming out!

If you weren't able to make it, you can watch the full film here.
